Even with the recent deadly tornadoes in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Iowa, the tornado season in the US is off to a slow start. Only 20 tornadoes measuring EF-1 or higher have been recorded so far this season which is the fewest in the last 62 years of official records. This compares to an average of 150 tornadoes by this time of the season. Until last two weeks there were no reported tornado fatalities. The below normal tornado activity is good news for U.S. homeowners, businesses and insurers due to below normal temperatures persisting across much of the country over the past 4 months.
