Not so much. In the past few years, the University of Utah Applied Cognition LabVirginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI)The National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA), The National Safety Council (NSC) and most recently, the American Automobile Association (AAA) Foundation for Traffic Safety published reports on how multitasking effects drivers. The findings vary but the bottom line is the same: It doesn’t matter if your phone is in your hand or on your head; if your texts come from your fingers or your mouth. Make no mistake, these studies say, there is no safe way to do something else while you’re driving. That’s because safe diving doesn’t just mean using your eyes and your hands—it also means using you brain. Even with the recent deadly tornadoes in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Iowa, the tornado season in the US is off to a slow start. Only 20 tornadoes measuring EF-1 or higher have been recorded so far this season which is the fewest in the last 62 years of official records. This compares to an average of 150 tornadoes by this time of the season. Until last two weeks there were no reported tornado fatalities. The below normal tornado activity is good news for U.S. homeowners, businesses and insurers due to below normal temperatures persisting across much of the country over the past 4 months.
